April 25, 2008: The European Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award in the field of sensors has been awarded to the Irish Company ChipSensors Ltd. The Company has also been named in the EE Times Silicon 60 Emerging Start-Ups list.

2007 European Frost & Sullivan Award

April 2008, ChipSensors Ltd. has been selected by Frost & Sullivan as the winner of its 2007 Award for Technology Innovation. Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to a company that has demonstrated excellence in developing new products and technologies within its high-tech industry. As per Frost and Sullivan, "This award recognizes the quality and depth of a company's research and development programme as well as the vision and risk-taking that enabled it to undertake such an endeavour."

ChipSensors Ltd, a fabless semiconductor start-up company, has unveiled a breakthrough in semiconductor technology that enables the surface of the chip itself to sense parameters such as temperature, humidity, certain gases and pathogens. The technology could be used to add functions to present day chips such as processors, or to produce new types of integrated smart sensor and is expected to bring significant contributions to the industry. ChipSensors Ltd was founded in 2006 with its Headquarters based in Limerick, Kernel Capital are founding investors in the Company. Previous award recipients in this category include Swedish-based SenseAir AB.

EE Times Silicon 60 Emerging Start-Ups list

April 2008, EETimes European News Director Peter Clarke named Kernel Investee Company ChipSensors Ltd in the EE Times 60 Emerging Startups list in recognition of the company's compelling technology and maturity amongst other factors. The EE Times 60 Emerging Startups list, first published in April 2004, has been updated to version 7.0 to reflect the latest corporate, commercial, technology and market conditions. ChipSensors is one of fifteen new companies added to the impressive list.


In making the announcement, EE Times noted that startups on the Silicon 60 list include companies involved in semiconductor chips, memory, MEMS, EDA software, embedded applications, foundry manufacturing, semiconductor production equipment, electronics subsystems, packaging and materials that made an impression on EE Times editors, adding that these are emerging companies to watch for a wide variety of reasons. Editors noted that companies were selected based on a mix of criteria including technology, intended market, maturity, financial position and management and investment profile.
